Portes Merlot was first bottled in 1996. Merlot was a key variety in George Skouras’ alphabet and of course he had to produce something great with it for the wine enthusiasts.
The vineyards of Merlot are located in the mountainous Corinth at an altitude of 350m. They were planted in 1989 and in recent years we have harvested the best crops.
Portes Merlot matures by 30% in second-hand French barrels for 8 months.
After bottling, it ages in the cellar of the winery for another 6 months.
Originally the color is deep ruby with ruby highlights. The nose is concentrated, complex and multidimensional. Aromas of red cherry, ripe plum, sweet vanilla, with hints of violet and tobacco unfold. On the palate it is round, velvety and full of very ripe soft tannins. The deep black and red fruit dominates, followed by aromas of spices and tobacco. The aftertaste is rich, long and complex.
